E-Bike FAQ – For First-Time Riders
What is a "Step-Through" frame? Who is it for?
Simply put, it's a frame without a top tube. The biggest advantage iseasy mounting and dismounting– you don't need to lift your leg high to get on or off. This makes it ideal forseniors, riders with limited mobility, commuters wearing skirts or formal wear, or anyone who finds stepping over a traditional frame awkward. Step-through bikes also offer a more upright, relaxed riding posture – perfect for city commuting and leisure rides.
What are "Fat Tyres"? What makes them better?
Fat tyres are typically 4 inches wide or more. Their advantages are simple:
- More stable – larger contact patch with the ground means better grip and balance
- More comfortable – the tyre itself absorbs bumps and vibrations, smoothing out rough roads
- More capable – from potholed city streets to gravel, sand, or even snow, fat tyres give you the traction and confidence to ride anywhere
What's the difference between motors? Which one should I choose?
There are two main types: hub motors and mid‑drive motors.
Hub motor – built into the wheel centre. Simple, low‑maintenance, and cost‑effective. Perfect for city commuting and flat terrain.
Mid‑drive motor – mounted at the crank (pedal area) and drives through the bike's gears. It delivers better hill‑climbing and off‑road performance, with a more natural pedal feel. Typically more expensive – but worth it if you ride hilly terrain or want a more refined experience.
How long does the battery last? How far can I go on one charge?
Battery life and range vary depending on rider weight, terrain, assist mode, and weather conditions. The ranges we show on our product pages are tested under standard conditions – your actual range may be longer or shorter depending on how you ride. In general:
- Pure electric mode (throttle only) – shorter range
- Pedal‑assist mode (you pedal, motor helps) – longer range
- ECO mode – maximum range
Should I choose a fat‑tyre or a narrow‑tyre e‑bike?
It depends on where and how you ride.
- Narrow tyres – lighter, faster, more efficient. Best for smooth city streets and longer commutes.
- Fat tyres – more grip, more comfort, more confidence on rough roads, gravel, sand, or snow. If you're riding on mixed surfaces or just want a smoother, more stable ride, fat tyres are the way to go.
